Picture of Theo Jansen work found on Myninjaplease.

I am fascinated by the giant kinetic sculptures of Dutch artist Theo Jansen, always elegant, massive and impressive with their ability to be eco friendly at the same time than resembling apocalyptic robots.

The Jansens project is AMAZING. I just wish it didnt have the cheesy music. When he comes walking out from behind it in the first cut, i just freak out. I mean, if only I could produce anything, not necessarily sculpture, but anything that has this type of elegance. From one review website, “Eventualy he wants to put these animals out in herds on the beaches, so they will live their own lives.” But what is even more amazing, is how rigerously his stuff is based in science, and algorithmic techniques to generate those structure. I wonder how much of that is true? You know, in the video you see him sitting at his desk, and the process looked quite different than genetic algorithms. Rather, it looked like blowing into tubes. Im sure youve seen this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7Ny5BYc-Fs
