Wow! Thanks so much for posting this! I had this toy as a 7 year old back in the 1970's! I'm 46 now and I've been trying to figure out the name of it for years and years! I finally tried a Google image search with 'magnetic blocks with electronic components' and your image turned up.

It was a wonderful toy and started me on a lifelong interest in electronics! To this day I think how great were my parents that they got me that toy! Seriously! The pictures you posted brought back a flood of fond memories, I remember each of those blocks well!

Lectron! Decades of searching ended for me today! Thank you so much.

I remember Stelarc from a documentary made by the BBC in the early '90s; he didn't look like this, no bad thing. I believe I still have the programme on VHS and will dig it out for encoding.

Cati, very interesting project. I agree with you when you highlight the impotance of making people aware of what is "invisible" to us. We see people with much fear and concern without real undestanding what's going on. Projects like yours makes us more aware of things, and empowers us to make choices about our lives.

PS: loved the accent. :-) I assume that's you. Nice to hear the voice behind the words.

I always adjust my personal space in accordance to others, assuming they aren't intruding on mine to a point where I'm uncomfortable. When I've spent time in eastern Asia for example, I felt I was constantly being bumped and crowded, but no one else seemed to notice, so I just made up for it by keeping to myself when I came home to the States :)

I think nonverbal cues are stronger the more you know about them though. With some people I know, they absolutely cannot read how I'm feeling based on my physical appearance, distancing, posture, and so on. But I have two of three people in my life who can immediately zero in on those things and react to them. Strangely, those people, while my best friends, live states and sometimes continents away from me! But when we're together, there's an immediate comfort with our physicality and nonverbal communication. I guess that does just prove it's all connected...

"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is Music."
"Without music, life would be a mistake."

It is too much time spent since I last read Nietzsche... thank you Cati to remind me this.

Hehehe, what a cool discovery! I had a "recent version", connecting components with wires. The name was "200-in-1" or something like this. I played hours, weeks, years with it, creating radiophone, alarms and various tests (almost 200 indeed!) it did not help with my physics classes! Maybe I would have learned better with the symbols-puzzle instead ;) ...

Thanks the interesting post *and* for reminding me about Electric Dreams--I'd forgotten about that movie gem.

@Zee your movie choices are harder to forget. Blade Runner is my all-time favourite--very emotionally charged (artificial or otherwise).

Artificial emotional intelligence... I definitely remember electric dreams, and I can't help thinking immediately about "Blade Runner" (from Phil K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?") and the incredible "Ghost in the Shell"...

It's great!
The level of the ink in the bottle seems to indicate it's real and not just a concept. I'd be curious to know exactly how the card is done though.

If I can find a way to do these myself, I could see many future cards of mine like that...

How fascinating and fun looking! This is one interesting bit of technology. It jumps into our human psyche and allows science and technology to invade the realm of shadows--which we humans have had a long-running fascination/fear/love of--more than, say, wave propagation theory. Visual over abstract and theory with no slit filters and such needed!

How can you not love the thought of little shadow people hiding about your house, playing in sight, and then vanishing when you intrude on their little world? But on a more serious note... How long do expect it will be before 'real' shadow people come out of the woodwork and start litigation, claiming Kage no Sekai is putting them out of work and infringing on the spirit world's domain?

;)

Thanks for the great post!

Mouvement (presque) perpétuel du son... :)

How strange this power of attraction of such simple things as a circle or a infinite reflection of mirrors, don't you think?

Thank you again and have a good day! :)

Strolling through your blog. Loving your idea of knowledge shopping. And maybe this past fashion from the future puts a smile on your face.

GPS is the way to future. I see in next 20 years or so , may be no vehicle in our countries will be without gps. However , cost is still a problem , specially in developing nations. But I am sure , with increase in demand the cost will come down. Nice blog.

This is a fascinating development - a definite leap from static computer screens to interactive display. It seems to me that this technology is getting pretty close to the screens and holograms on Star Trek. Very cool!

I think 3D printing is so cool. We print a lot of models each day. The sky is the limit with this freedom of form.

cheers
rene
sotopiaconcepts.com
